Enterococci are abundant in the gastrointestinal tract of humans and animals and can be used as an index of good hygiene and sanitation.

Most Enterococcus species are regarded as “low-grade” pathogens, however, some Enterococci are opportunistic and responsible for septicaemia, urinary tract infections, and abdominal infections. Two of the main pathogenic species are Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium.

Enterococcus testing is a release parameter of food products such as dairy, meat, and processed food products.

Advantages of using CompactDry ETC to identify Enterococcus.

The CompactDry ETC Enterococcus test is a ready-to-use, chromogenic, selective culture plate specifically targeted at Enterococcus identification.

It contains X-glucoside (X-Gluc), a chromogenic indicator targeted by Enterococci β-glucosidase, this causes a light blue to blue coloration of Enterococcus colonies providing accurate and reliable results.

The CompactDry ETC is based on the usage of X-glucoside (X-Gluc) and selective antibiotics.

Enterococci β-glucosidase targets X-Gluc and allows the specific detection of enterococci through the formation of light blue to blue/green colonies.

Replace the lid and label the plate

Step #5
5

Turn over the plate (lid down) and incubate for the appropriate time and temperature

Step #6
6

Following incubation, count the number of coloured microbial colonies
